GNOCCHI RECIPE

NEWSPAPER

I wanted to inform others about a food that is influenced by a part of my diasporic identity, so I decided to create a step-by-step recipe on gnocchi, which is a part of specific South American countries and its motherland, Italy.

That being said, gnocchi is an Italian dish that can be also translated in Spanish as “ñoqui”.

I wanted the composition to be typographically legible yet still obtain a dynamic layout, than a typical recipe found in newspapers!

I designed this book primarily for my love of art and global history and more specifically, industrial design history.

This book takes on a quirky, stylistic approach that is meant to excite and create a semiotic relationship with designers and the education of design.

BIOGRAPHIC BOOK

This project was based on discovering a block in New York City and spending several weeks collecting research, images, and materials as part of my design process. As a recent resident of the Lower East Side, I discovered the Henry Street Settlement.

The biographic book sheds light on the American Nurse and activist, Lillian Wald, who founded the Henry Street Settlement.

The interior dust jacket contains a hidden Suffragist meet-up in the stylized flyers they would hang in discreet Tenement areas to prevent raids.

I wanted to promote her contributions to American history, despite her unfamiliarity to many today. Throughout the book, there is a symbolic reference to the windows that are still intact today after celebrating 105 years in 2019.

Windows are cut out and referencing the chapter number within the book, with an adjacent image representing the theme of the chapter.

Providing business cards with the books' identity, to local residents that should know about the services The Henry Street Settlement has to offer today.

In honor of a friend, Samuel Cayenne, who teaches Braille.

Designed to help people that are both legally blind, totally blind, and sighted, this modular-typeface "Sammy Sans" has infused both Braille and the English language together.

Flat Type-specimen

Not only is this is a legible alphabet for the blind, with tactile dots, but it also encourages sighted people to learn Braille by assimilating language barriers.

8-BIT HISTORY

BOOK

I designed and published this book based on the culture of arcade games. Growing up with two older brothers, video games became a regular hobby throughout my life.

Looking deeper into the start of 8-bit gaming, I had a lot of fun incorporating specific gaming elements into the book, whether it was stylizing each chapter on its own agenda or mimicking certain gameplay.
